There are few issues so close to my heart as the work of healing marriages. I believe many of the problems we see in society start at home and can be improved by starting at the source. Having left a broken marriage myself eleven years ago, I know how all-consuming relationship problems can be. If there is ongoing and unresolved turmoil at home, it can easily translate over to your job, your friendships, even your faith. By healing marriages, we begin to be able to heal society and that is just what Ngina Otiende at Intentional Today has set out to do. Here is their mission:
Ngina and her husband have helped in healing marriages and hosting marriage events in Kenya for years. While they have seen many improvements, when a 2014 Kenyan law passed legalizing polygamy, she knew God was calling them to bigger things. As a result they set to work organizing the Pastors and Leaders Marriage Conference coming this March, in order to reach more of the Kenyan population. As 82.5% of Kenyans identify as being Christian, training the pastors and leaders of their communities will help them reach more hearts and households.
The beauty of their work in healing marriages is that the focus begins and ends with Christ. They help husbands and wives renew themselves in Christ, centering their own lives on Him first and foremost, setting the firm foundation needed to restore and invigorate each marriage.
When I first found out about the Pastor & Leaders Marriage Conference, I thought… hmmm… our marriages need help too! How can we gain some of this guidance and empowerment in our own marriages if we aren’t able to attend one of their conferences?
Luckily, Ngina’s passion for securing marriages in Christ has led her to write a book available to anyone looking for healing in their marriage. Even if you consider yourself to already have a positive and healthy marriage, you will benefit from reading her book, “Blues to Bliss,” coming out in February. She covers everything from intimacy, submission, healthy communication to finances and more. Especially geared towards wives, Blues to Bliss will help infuse new life into your marriage. Loving more this year begins with Christ’s work in you. Give this gift to yourself, your spouse, your children and even society by making a commitment to follow Christ’s design for marriage. You can reserve your copy here.
Also consider serving more this year by supporting the Pastor and Leaders Marriage Conference. I’m so excited to see how God continues to transform couples on up to nations as He reaches more hearts through Intentional Today. Here are two examples of the blessings Christ has forged through Ngina’s work:
- “We’ve had the privilege of attending several seminars and they have truly been a back bone to our marriage. To mention two seminars in particular that we attended. One where we were taught relationship management (how to relate to one another in good and tough times, building on long lasting friendships in marriage). This has helped us for the last seven years of our marriage. We have constantly referred to these truths when times are tough. In another seminar, we did our personality profiles and these helped us understand one another and how we respond to challenges. We have learned so much and our marriage is what it is as a result of the values that have been imparted” – Peter and Eva Ashira
- “Ever felt bored and dry in your relationship with your spouse because of the many responsibilities of this world that weigh on you? We all need times of refreshing, refocusing and realignment in our dealings with our dear mates. We need constant reminders of how God intended marriage to be. The seminars are practical, fun-filled and Word-filled reminders of what God intended marriage to be like. I love how we were taught to appreciate each other, to never let go of fun with our spouses and to let the light of God’s Word guide our dealings with each other. We felt re-fired, corrected in love, re focused and rejuvenated in our marriage.” – Edgar and Maggy Otieno
